Daniel Bryan Gives His Explanation.
Former WWE wrestling star Daniel Bryan is speaking out about why he retired so early at age 34. Bryan, along with his wife and fellow WWE Diva Brie Bella, told ABC News February 16th that he started to suffer seizures after numerous concussions, leading to his decision to quit wrestling.
Bryan was a pro wrestler for 16 years, and he said he enjoyed his time in the ring so much that when he announced his retirement earlier this month, he quoted in saying, “I have loved this in a way that I have never loved anything else.” Bella told ABC News about her experience dealing with his seizures “I was with him with one of his seizures after a concussion, It scared me so bad. I lost it.” Bryan said in spite of the seizures, he asked his wife to keep his secret. “I just implored her, ‘Please don’t say anything to anybody,'” he told ABC News.

Bryan had stepped out of the ring for good last year after having surgery on his neck. During his retirement announcement, he clarified that he did not blame the WWE for his injuries or his early retirement. He noted that the WWE even stopped him from wrestling after his last concussion, despite multiple doctors saying he could compete in the ring.
The World Wrestling Entertainment also quoted in a statement to ABC News that “unlike contact sports like the NFL, boxing or MMA, WWE performers are taught the art of perceived contact, which is cleverly choreographed. However, there are still some unintentional risks associated with in-ring performances, all of which our talent understand.” However, even with this noted, the WWE is facing a lawsuit from two former wrestlers who accuse the wrestling organization of failing to diagnose concussions and sending athletes into the ring while injured. The WWE told ABC News that the lawsuit has “no merit and we will vigorously contest it.”
“I just feel that it’s time for me to hang up the boots…”
Bella said she also plans to retire this year as she and Bryan plan to start a family together. “Feeling and seeing everything he went through with his retirement,” Bella said, “I just feel that it’s time for me to hang up the boots. It’s gonna be hard on me, as well, but that day is definitely very close.” Here’s to Danial Bryan and a happy and rewardful retirement!
