Ever hear the phrase ‘Act As If’?
I recently hear about a girl who became famous as an art project. That’s right. Out of pure curiosity, she decided to see if she could get people to buy into the idea that she was, in fact, a successful EDM DJ. Spoiler alert… The shit worked! And all the while, she never blew her cover.
It all started out very simple. So simple that you will probably relate to most of what you’re about to read. As many of us trade in late night binge drinking for a steady income,we often find ourselves annoyed with the ways of our past. A young woman found herself in the same situation with the club scene. We find ourselves surrounded by the same DJs, the same crowd of high octane, over-sexualized college puke, the same druggy’s sweating all over the place… It can start to become old news. Even the music can seem to be commercialized, over produced and basic.
“…I asked myself the question: is a DJ nowadays just a puppet who plays music on stage and shoots their euphoric audience in the face with confetti? Does a DJ really still need technical skills, now that even bog standard DJ equipment has an integrated sync-button? Isn’t large-scale DJing more about a glittering performance than any authentic substance?”, says Nadja Brenneisen.
It was at that point she got started with a new ‘art project’. It didn’t take very long before she fooled millions into thinking she was a famous EDM DJ. He name is Nadja Brenneisen and you can read her article here.
