The Godzilla Resurgence Trailer Is Nuts!
We’ve already seen Gareth Edwards‘ successful American take on Godzilla that was released in 2014 in time for the mighty kaiju’s 60th birthday. But Toho already had earlier plans of its own for its original creation, with Godzilla Resurgence (or Shin Gojira, as it’s known in Japan) also announced a couple of years ago.
Showcasing what co-director Higuchi said is the “most terrifying” Godzilla yet; the epic 1:32 minute-long Godzilla Resurgence Trailer teaser hints a slightly different take for the franchise as we see much stronger and heavily armed government forces readying to fight back. The movie is said to be based more directly upon the 1954 original film, released when Japan was still recovering from World War II and inspired by the devastation of the war’s final days.
With the news of this Godzilla Resurgence Trailer, Legendary Pictures is targeting a June 2018 release for the direct sequel to Edwards’ Godzilla, which plans to feature Americanized versions of other classic Toho monster including Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. The production company is also collaborating a rare inter-studio mash-up between Warner Bros. and Universal to bring their respective Kaiju franchises together in an updated version of King Kong vs. Godzilla in 2020, which is set to feature the new reimagining of the giant ape set to debut in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, which premiered a behind the scenes look at this year’s MTV Movie Awards, starring Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell
Godzilla Resurgence is set for a release date on the 29th of July 2016 in Japan. We’ll let you guys know if and when we hear of its western release date.
