Fruit gushers and Capri-sun in hand, are you ready?
There’s no doubt that any kid of the 90’s dr
eamed about running through the jungle obstacle-course that made up Legends of the Hidden Temple as a blue barracuda or silver snake at some point in their life. I know I did. And if you’re not familiar, think Indiana Jones themed game show, minus the fedora.
Nickelodeon just revealed that they’ll be reviving the once 6-team children’s game show into a new “action TV movie.” Yep, that means, your inner child still will never be able to show that YOU can complete the Shrine of the Silver Monkey. 🙁 (Seriously…it was three pieces.)
The new TV-movie will follow three siblings as they have to complete obstacles that true 90’s kids will recognize from the show. Just like in the show, these kids will have to go through obstacles to make it out of a Mayan temple alive. Unlike the original, where real-life kids crossed fake moats and were scared by temple guards, the movie will be, ya know, scripted kids crossing moats and fearing temple guards.
Of course, it wouldn’t be The Legends of the Hidden Temple without the signature colorful animals – blue barracudas, silver snakes, red jaguars, purple parrots, green monkeys and orange iguanas. Along with these show staples, the siblings will also go through “the steps of knowledge”, and of course they couldn’t leave out talking stone head Olmec.
The movie, set to start production this month, will star 14-year-old Isabela Moner, currently staring on Nickelodeon’s 100 Things to do Before High School. This is only one of the “TV movies” in the works for Nickelodeon as part of a complete throwback makeover. The network also has plans to remake the classic Hey Arnold! into an ‘Avenger-style‘ movie, bringing together all classic Nickelodeon characters.
I think Nickelodeon may really be onto something with this. While they’re a children’s network, I have a feeling that more adults will be tuning in for this one!
